« A real discovery, this one!

IRMÃO VICTOR is the project of Marco A. Benvegnù, a 26-year-old multi-instrumentalist living in Brazil. He melds into Tropicália the echoes of 50-year adventures in pop music and modern sounds. UK magazine SHINDIG! described his songs as “intricate pop symphonies in miniature”. “Mariposário” is his new LP from 2020, and probably his best. It’s not us saying that, it’s UK magazine UNCUT who rates it 8/10.

Note : 8/10 (Jon Dale, UNCUT)

IRMÃO VICTOR – Mariposário (Pop Supérette, 2020) “Wistful, experimental, wide-eyed- this is post-Tropicália dreaming Led by singer-songwriter Marco A. Benvegnù, Brazilian group Irmão Victor have been slowly, quietly, releasing a small clutch of excellent experimental pop albums, of which Mariposário is both the latest and the best yet. Their heritage might have you thinking bossa nova and Tropicália – go with that, but only to a certain extent, as there’s still more happening in Benvegnù’s compellingly complex songs. “Tristinha” strands a luscious melody within waves of glissando guitar scrunch; “Qual è a opinião…” quickly slides into slippery pop surrealism; “Cruela de Vil” is a melancholy’60s pop sashay. A real discovery, this one.” Rating : 8/10 (Jon Dale, UNCUT)
